Beverly Greer, Administrator, Stroke Recovery Center, Palm Springs, CA

I have led the Stroke Recovery Center since August 2005, coming on board after moving to the Coachella
Valley the year prior.  Having lived in the LA area, most recently Encino, for the better part of 25 years, I
spent most of my career in Hospital Administration managing hospitals from Anaheim to Lancaster. I
joined the healthcare industry after completing my MBA at Pepperdine University and spend many years
working with physicians, caregivers and patients to enhance the delivery of healthcare in Southern
California communities.

A couple of years before moving to the desert, I started consulting throughout the Western US so that
when my mother decided to move to the Valley from Arizona, it seemed a good time to move here as well
so that we could take care of her better.

When the opportunity to serve the Stroke Recovery Center came up, it seemed like the perfect fit for my
background and skills. Being able to help those who “fall thru the cracks” of the healthcare system offers
a reward that is immeasurable and working with our dedicated staff, Directors and volunteers is a great
experience.
STROKE RECOVERY CENTER

Statement of Purpose

We begin....where others leave off
The Center was established in 1978 to fill a void in the continuum of care for recovering stroke patients.
Patients go home from the hospital armed with information and medical assistance on how to
continue recoverying, but many of them are unable to make proper use of these resources.

The answer to this problem was the creation of an optimistic, cheerful and hopeful environment that
dispels the depression that usual hampers stroke rehabilitation.  Within this setting stroke survivors
under supervision of therapeutic recreation specialists apply and practice what they have been taught
by their physical, occupational and speech therapists.   Stroke survivors can realize their full potential of
their mental and physical capacities.  Stroke survivors are offered the training and support necessary to
more effectively carry out the activities of daily living.

The Center's accomplishments have changed certina rigidly held beliefs in the field of stroke
rehabilitation.  It has demonstrated that significant improvements can be made in a patient's condition
even though a prolonged period has elapsed between the time of stroke and onset of treatment as
practiced at the Stroke Recovery Center.

Our goals and measurements of success are :

1.  to increase independence

2.  maintain current level of attainment

3.  slow rate of decline
